Ban Them or Get Birodegradable Ones?
Dan Boyd's latest column in the Tradewinds (2/8-2/21) focuses on Gov. Mapp's State of the Territory address. The governor highlighted plans for a Waste Reduction Program that will include "recycling, composting, a beverage and container deposit law, a trash separation plan and a BAN (emphasis ours
) on plastic bags in the territory".
Good news, indeed...but as Dan points out, it will take time and education to fully make a difference. The St. John Community Foundation has a few initiatives in the work, and we are still diligently collecting and crushing cans in conjunction with IGLA...but what else could the island, as a whole and as individuals...be doing?Web Hosting Video
